Staffing

We are delighted to share the extremely exciting news that our probationer teacher Miss Logan has been appointed to a post as Class Teacher in Castlehill Primary School in Campbeltown from August. We will be very sad to lose her from Tayvallich and were very luck to have her to take over from Mrs Dixon while she has been on maternity leave. However, Castlehill will be incredibly lucky to have her; she will continue to bring amazing teaching and learning to the lives of Argyll and Bute’s children.

Beach Clean

A huge thank you to everyone who turned out for the Parent Council Beach Clean on Sunday and to our Parent Council members (particularly Fiona Lowrie, Eilidh Campbell and Lisa Briggs) for organising the event. We managed to gather a huge amount of debris from the beach and this is, as always, very beneficial to the local community.

Communication with school

As you know, on Tuesday 29th April, Teams telephony replaced Skype telephony for our school and staff.  We now have an answerphone system that does not allow callers to leave a message before 9am. We are looking into whether and how we can change this but in the meantime, please use our email address to share any information with us ahead of the start of the school day: enquiries-tayvallich@argyll-bute.gov.uk

Fabulous Family Fridays

We are so lucky to have so many parents and family members who have been able to share information and stories about their career journeys. This week it was the turn of Alexi Murdoch, who gave some fantastic insights into his life as a musician. His words about the power of music to connect people and bring joy to our lives were really inspiring and we have invited him back to do some more work with the children at a later date.

Check out some pictures and also of Sander Grafton from last week, who helped us to understand his life and work as a fisherman: https://www.tayvallich.argyll-bute.sch.uk/fabulous-family-fridays-2/

Street Drumming with Martin Douglas

The children and staff really enjoyed our first session of Street Drumming with Martin Douglas on Monday and we are really looking forward to him returning over the coming weeks. Pictures to follow!

Outdoor Learning with the Tayvallich Rangers.

We had another fantastic session on Wednesday with Sal and Rowan and the weather was amazing again. You can read more about what we got up to and check out some photos here:

STEMOVATORS – Oban, Tuesday 6th May

We wish Miss Fraser’s class all the very best for their presentations in Oban on Tuesday. They have worked so incredibly hard on their Climate-Ready Classroom Models and deserve huge praise for their teamwork, creativity and implementation of their STEM learning.

Car Wash and Coffee Morning

Saturday 10th May is the Parent Council’s annual Car Wash and Coffee Morning fundraising event

We could still use a few more hands on the day, so if you haven’t yet volunteered to help with serving tea, washing cars or selling raffle tickets, please contact a member of our Parent Council and offer your services.

We are also looking for donations of baking and donations for our bottle stall.

Please dig to the back of your cupboards and donate any unwanted bottles, cartons or cans. As long as they are unopened and in date, we will gladly take them.

Or if you have something you would like to donate as a raffle prize then that would also be gratefully received.

Many thanks,

Savanna, Lisa, Eilidh and Keri

Growing Challenge

Bob Moyes visited today and dropped off the next instalment of our growing challenges for The Flower Show. Every child will have brought home their sunflower seeds, marigold seeds, a pot for the marigolds and the next set of instructions. All instructions are available on our website:

Tayvallich’s Fabulous Family Friday Festival

On the Friday 20th of June 2025 we will host the inaugural Tayvallich Primary School Summer Festival. This will include a showcase of learning across all of the curricular areas, with the theme of learning for sustainability running throughout.

More details to follow but please save the date, as all of our families and wider school community will be invited to be part of the learning and fun.

Have a great weekend.  Please be aware that we do NOT have Monday 5th May off for the early May Bank Holiday but the children will have more fabulous street drumming with Martin to look forward to!
