Upcoming events

Don’t forget to check the school calendar for upcoming events, in addition to those detailed below:

Stemovators

As you will know from the school calendar, our P5 to 7s are travelling to Oban on Tuesday May 6th to showcase their amazing STEM work. Please find information and consent forms in bags tonight (Friday) and return them at your earliest convenience.

Communication with school – Tuesday 29th April

On Tuesday 29th April, we will also have an interruption to all phone services, as Teams telephony will replace Skype telephony for all schools and education staff.  On Tuesday 29th April, you will therefore not be able to contact us by telephone on the school number or Mrs Carter’s direct line. If you need to contact us, please send an email to enquiries-tayvallich@argyll-bute.gov.uk and we will get back you as soon as we are able. In an emergency, please follow our communication protocol:

Emergencies

If you require urgent assistant or have an emergency involving your child during the school day, please be aware that school may not be able to respond immediately.

Please consider calling your GP, the emergency services or Children and Families Social Work for help.

If there is an emergency situation during the school day affecting your child and we need to contact you, we will do so using the contact details that you have provided us with.

We will have access to mobiles on Tuesday, should we need to contact you.

Beach Clean reminder

Just a reminder that this takes place on Sunday this week and has been organised by our fabulous Parent Council:

The annual Tayvallich beach clean will be held on Sunday 27th April 2025.

Grabbers and bags will be available for collection from outside the Tayvallich shop from 10am on Sunday. Please help yourselves and head on out!

If you could please drop Eilidh Campbell a quick message or email the parent council (tayvallichparentcouncil@gmail.com) afterwards to let us know how many metres of shore line you were able to clean that would be really helpful- any photos also gratefully received!

When you are finished beach cleaning please leave bags on Carsaig Green by the benches and return the grabbers to outside the shop. The Council plan to pick up the litter on Monday (or as soon after that as they can- this has been arranged and we do have it in hand!) If you have any piles of previously collected *beach litter* you are welcome to add them to the collection for pick up (the Council may not uplift if there is commercial or residential waste).

The GRAB Trust support the beach clean with a donation to Tayvallich Primary School Parent Council and we are required to log the distance of beach we have cleaned. Litter picking within the school catchment of Achnamara, Keills and Crinan is also included! The more hands on deck and the more coastline we can cover, the better!

A huge thank you to anyone who is able to help. It will be great to get as much plastic and rubbish as we can off the local shoreline, especially after recent storms.

Outdoor Learning with the Tayvallich Rangers.

We had the most fantastic session on Wednesday with Sal and Rowan and the weather was amazing! We cannot wait to learn more from them about our precious surroundings next week. As some of you will know, some children got wet feet on Wednesday, as they did not have suitable walking boots or wellies as requested. Please email enquiries-tayvallich@argyll-bute.gov.uk by the end of Monday 28th April if you cannot provide suitable shoes for your child moving forward and we will provide them with a pair of wellies from school stock.

Fabulous Family Fridays

We were delighted to welcome Sander Grafton in  today to talk all about his work as a fisherman. We all learned new information (including staff!) about creels and the amazing technology used these days to help with navigation. Many thanks to Sander for giving up his time.

Staffing

As you may know, Miss McNab (Mrs Mehaffey) has recently taken up a post at Ardrishaig Primary School and will not be returning to work with us in Tayvallich. We wish her every success in her next exciting ventures and will miss her very, very much in Tayvallich.  She has played a very important part in the lives of a huge number of Tayvallich Primary School and ELC children and their families over many years.

Mrs Dunlop (Isla) also visited today and said that she has secured a new post at the Lochgilphead Resource Centre and will not be returning to our staff team. We are very sad to hear this news but delighted that she has found a permanent post that will draw on her many skills.

P7 residential

We are currently finalising the details of the P7 residential at the Lochranza Centre and will issue details to P7 families next week. Please note that there is no cost to families for this opportunity and there is no requirement for specialist equipment or clothing to be purchased as the centre can lend this if required.

Have a great weekend.
