I can’t tell you how much fun we have had with our learning this week and what a credit to the school and their families the children have been. Please take time to look at the galleries of photos with your child and ask them to explain all the fantastic things they got up to!
Many thanks to you for organising packed lunches and suitable clothing. Please make sure that before bed tonight after our visit to The Tayvallich Estate, you do tick check.
Glasgow Science Centre Visit – Wednesday 4th December.
The Glasgow Science Centre On Tour Team came and visited us on Wednesday and Andy and Murray delivered a range of fantastic workshops about the amazing workings of the human body.

Joint Learning in Glassary Primary School – Thursday 5th December
In May of 2024, the P5 to 7 pupils of Glassary and Tayvallich Primary Schools in Argyll undertook a 2 day residency where they learnt all about the fantastic Argyll Hope Spot and the ways that they can use their learning, skills and knowledge to make sure that our home says safe and sustainable for eveyone who lives here.
You can see more about the fantastic things they did and the amazing people they worked with here:

Hope Spot Workshops
They also learned about some of the other 140 Hope Spots from around the world and wrote letters to some of the people who live in them.
On Thursday of this week, all of the pupils from Glassary and Tayvallich got together to look at the letters that had been sent by our pupils and the replies that have been arriving back over the last six months. Each pupil who took part has been given a book with all the letters and replies in it as a memento. As well as written letters and emails, we were lucky enough to get two videos responses which you can check out here:

The pupil of both schools had a fantastic day learning and playing together. We are very much hoping to have a similar two day residency in 2025, this time involving pupils in all stages.
Fabulous Family Friday/Learning Trip to Tayvallich Estate – Friday 6th December.
We had a fantastic start to our Fabulous Family Fridays with a visit to see Rowan, Head of Hospitality and Ewan, Estate Manager, in action at work on the Tayvallich Estate. We also got to meet Calum, the Chief Scientist for the estate, who helped us learn about some of the plant and animal life. The whole programme had been put together by Keira, who is the Community Engagement Officer for Highlands Rewilding and funded through FIRNS funding (The Facility for Investment Ready Nature in Scotland), provided by NatureScot and the Scottish Government.
We found out so much really interesting and useful information, including why science and surveying are so important on the estate, why drones have transformed ways of observing and monitoring animals, how a dry suit really does keep you dry when you dive for scallops and oysters and why turning a duvet cover inside out helps you to fit it. The pictures tell the stories and the children will tell you more! https://www.tayvallich.argyll-bute.sch.uk/fabulous-family-friday-visit-to-the-tayvallich-estate-6th-december-2024/
Many thanks to Keira, Ewan, Rowan, Calum, Mrs Mes, Mrs Briggs, Mr Mitchell and our wonderful drivers Tom and Christine for making the day such a success.
Have a lovely weekend.
