Fabulous Family Friday/Visit to the Tayvallich Estate – 6th December 2024

We had a fantastic start to our Fabulous Family Fridays with a visit to see Rowan and Ewan in action at work on the Tayvallich Estate. We also got to meet Calum, the Chief Scientist for the estate, who helped us learn about some of the plant and animal life. The whole programme had been put together by Keira, who is the Community Engagement Officer for Highlands Rewilding, with funding through FIRNS funding (The Facility for Investment Ready Nature in Scotland), provided by NatureScot and the Scottish Government.

We found out so much really interesting and useful information, including why science and surveying are so important on the estate, why drones have transformed ways of observing and monitoring animals, how a dry suit really does keep you dry when you dive for scallops and oysters and why turning a duvet cover inside out helps you to fit it. The pictures tell the stories and the children will tell you more!

Many thanks to Keira, Ewan, Rowan, Calum, Mrs Mes, Mrs Briggs, Mr Mitchell and our wonderful drivers Tom and Christine for making the day such a success.
