Joint Learning Day – Wednesday 5th March

This was the most fantastic learning experience, for pupils and staff alike. Arthur Ker gave an utterly captivating reading of stories from his book “Close Encounters in the Forest” and explained about the making of the book. He also answered questions from the P5 to 7 pupils about his varied career in Graphic Design, Art and writing as part of their World of Work learning.

We also loved taking part in the workshop with Jacquelyn Condie from Kilmartin Museum for the Sewing for Hope workshop.

The children also got to spend quality playtimes together and the weather was kind to us, as you can see from the photos: Joint Learning for Sustainability Day – Tayvallich Primary School and ELC

We are so grateful to Arthur and Jacquelyn for making this possible, and to Mrs Cathie Fyfe, our Temporary ASN Assistant in Tayvallich, for helping us to connect with Arthur.

World Book Day

For World Book Day on Thursday, P1-7 shared their favourite book characters with one another. They then partnered up to create a new, unusual story, for example: The adventures of Wednesday and Miss Honey, Captain Ahab and Dog Man and even Bart Simpson and Matilda. The pupils searched the playground for clues during their book themed scavenger hunt! This included questions about the books themselves, unscrambling words and anagrams. Peter (who often fixes our broken toys) came dressed as Doc McStuffins. Parent Forum

At the Parent Forum Meeting next week there will be discussions (amongst other things) about plans and funding for our Whole School Community Learning Together Trip, which will follow on from the very successful day at Loch Lomond Sea Life Centre last year. The trip will now take place after the Easter holidays and we will confirm the date at our earliest convenience.

Fabulous Family Friday

Ahead of the Sewing for Hope Workshop on Wednesday, Keri Naylor got in touch to tell us about an incredible project that her family, Sarah Phizakle and other members of the community had taken part in ahead of the COP26 Climate Change conference in Glasgow, November 2021 called ‘Stitches for Survival.’ This linked so beautifully with the work that our children have done this week and shows how the golden thread of climate change prevention has run through the lives of our children and families over recent years.

Keri could not join us in person for our assembly today but I showed children images and read some of Keri’s words on her behalf in assembly. Thanks so much, Keri!
