Important Information:

World Book Day- Thursday 5th of March
We are looking forward to celebrating World Book Day. Children are invited to come to school dressed as their favorite book character. As always, we ask that you refrain from spending money on your outfit and encourage reusing a costume you already have or using it as a fun crafting opportunity using recycled materials.

Throughout the day, learning will be themed around reading and storytelling. Classes will explore a range of books, take part in literacy‑based activities, and enjoy opportunities to share their favorite stories with one another. Our aim is to inspire a love of reading, spark discussion, and help pupils discover new authors and characters along the way.

Parent Council Meeting – Thursday 5th of March 3.30pm
The next meeting of the parent council will be on Thursday after school. This will be a hybrid meeting, so you can attend online or in person if you’re able. If you wish to put forward any items for the agenda please email these to tayvallichparentcouncil@gmail.com and we will circulate the agenda and a meeting link at the start of the week. As always, it would be lovely to see as many of you there as possible, parent council meetings are for all parents and carers, not just the members of our committee. They’re the best way of keeping informed with what’s going on at school and the opportunity to have your say on many areas that include and impact your child, their learning and their school experience.

Food Club- Friday 6th of February
Please bring in recipes on Friday 6th of Feb. Food club are going to be doing a Recipe Book Project over the coming weeks. As part of this project, we would love each child to contribute some special recipes from home.
We are asking the children to bring in:

  • Recipes from cookbooks that they enjoy
  • Recipes from parents, grandparents, carers, friends, or other family members
  • Recipes shared by people in the local community or village

Where possible, we would especially love a copy of the recipe handwritten by the person who makes it, as this will make our book even more personal and meaningful. However, typed copies are absolutely fine if handwriting isn’t possible. Please include the name of the person who usually makes the recipe or did make the recipe in the past.

Each child should aim to bring in at least three recipes. These can include anything food-related, such as:

  • Cakes and bakes
  • Biscuits (for example, Mum’s butter cookies!)
  • Soups
  • Burgers
  • Family meals
  • Salads
  • Or absolutely anything else your family enjoys cooking and eating

This project is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate family traditions, favorite meals, and the diversity of food within our community. We can’t wait to see (and read!) all the delicious contributions.

Dyslexia Awareness- Learning Together
Thank you very much to those of you who came along to Session One. I am keen to tailor these sessions as best I can so please do let me know your feedback/if you would like me to include anything in upcoming sessions.
Session Two: 4th March at 3.15-4.15
• Classroom Approaches (continued)
• Digital Technology

Please remember that your child does not need a formal dyslexia diagnosis for these sessions to be helpful. If your child has experienced barriers to learning, or if you would simply like to deepen your understanding, you are warmly encouraged to attend.

Garden Tidy & Red Nose Day- Friday 20th March
We would like to invite all families to our Garden Tidy event on Friday 20th March. Further details, including timings and what to bring, will be shared soon. This date is also Red Nose Day, so please keep an eye out for more information about how we would like you to get involved…

P4-7 Rugby
P4-7 Rugby will be continuing with Arran Martin every Thursday. Please continue to ensure that your child(ren) come to school wearing their rugby kit and sensible trainers. Bring school uniform to change into after. We suggest packing pants, socks and hoodies just in case, as we will be outside as much as possible. The pupils will be playing non-contact, but they are still likely to get muddy.

Marine Restoration Highlands Rewilding- Wednesday 11th March
Highlands Rewilding are preparing to begin marine restoration work in the local area and have asked Tayvallich Primary School to be part of the effort. Marine Biologist-Dr David will be visiting the school to deliver a short, informative Q&A session with pupils, giving them the chance to learn more about the incredible marine environments around us and how they can play a part in their restoration and protection.

P7s Extended Transitions
Our P7 pupils will be taking part in a 10‑week Enhanced Transition Programme designed to support their move to High School. Each weekly session will last around an hour and will focus on building confidence, developing skills, and helping pupils feel well‑prepared for the transition. As part of the programme, Week 8 aims to include a visit to Lochgilphead High School, giving pupils the chance to explore the school environment and meet some of the staff. Further details about the visit, including timings and transport arrangements, will be shared closer to the date.
