Smoke Free Me
Last week was another fantastic one in our school and also out of school, when the Primary 7s visited the Joint Campus for the performance of the health and well-being related play, Smoke Free Me.

The play was entertaining and very informative but most are impressive was the respectful and cooperative behaviour of our pupils on the day. They were very attentive, joined in with the activities and were an absolute credit to our school.
Mrs MacLachlan (who supports in Glassary) Mrs Nelson (Clerical from Tayvallich and our wonderful bus driver on the day) and I accompanied the trip and it was an absolute pleasure to do so.

Comic Relief Day
The week saw lots of activities taking place around the reasons for and fundraising around Comic Relief Day and we linked this to our understanding of Children’s Rights and needs and empathy.
On Friday, everyone joined on with activities to celebrate and support the day and we are delighted that the combined total raised by Tayvallich Primary School and ELC and Glassary Primary School is £190.

A Castle in our Classroom

You may have heard about a Castle that has mysteriously appeared in the P1 to 3 class this week and heard about some new royal characters who have moved in. Check out their portraits in the gallery by clicking here.

Coming up:

Easter camps

The LiveArgyll team has some spaces on their Easter holiday Multi-Sports and Football camps running from April 3rd to 6th at the Joint Campus. These are led by David McAllister, our Active Schools Co-ordinator (who has recently been training our P7 young leaders) and his team.
The camps are always well attended and a superb experience. You can find out more and sign up here

Easter Egg Hunt – Barnlusgan, Sunday April 7th.

We have been asked to share the information below with you about an eggs-citing event happening in the holidays.

The local fundraising committee for Macmillan Cancer Support are holding an Easter egg hunt at Barnluasgan on Friday 7th April and would love to see as many children as possible come along.  This is suitable for nursery and lower primary school age groups.  There will be teas/coffee & cake for parents and children to enjoy.

You can find more information on the poster here.

Progress report – follow up conversation appointments.
We will be sending out times at the start of this week for a face to face or telephone conversation with your child’s class teacher, if you have been in touch to request one using the Google Form issued last week. These will take place after school on Wednesday 29th March or Thursday 30th March.
Any parents who cannot make those days or times will be offered an alternative after the Easter break.
If you have not yet responded to request an appointment, please do so by 1pm on Monday 20th March.

Length of the school day

In order to bring our school into line with other schools in the authority and also with staffing ratios for supervision in the playground, we are looking to shorten the lunch break to 45 minutes and finish at 3.15pm. These timings have been shown to have a significant positive impact on pupil wellbeing and achievement, in primary schools where they are in place. The ELC timings would be adjusted accordingly.

Your views on this are very important. Please complete the feedback form using the link in this week’s email by Friday 24th March to share them with us.
