Week Beginning 19th January

Tayvallich Primary School Rugby

Important Information:

P4-7 Rugby
P4-7s had a great time at Rugby this week and our 6-week Rugby block will be continuing with Arran Martin every Thursday. Please ensure that your child(ren) come to school wearing their rugby/PE kit and sensible trainers. Bring school uniform to change into after. We suggest packing spare pants, socks and hoodies just in case, as we will be outside as much as possible. The pupils will be playing non-contact, but they are still likely to get muddy. Very muddy, if this week was anything to go by!

A Message from Technology Club
“Next week can Tech club members please bring in old tech items such as tapes, DVD players, Video players and Race Cars that are no longer in use. We aim to take them apart, study the pieces and attempt to modify the items. Please bring old skateboards and electric toys to be modified too as long as they are not valuable or precious as they will be used as  “test subjects” and will likely get damaged. This is an upcycle and explore project and therefore things may no longer work after. Please do not bring larger items such as scooters, bikes or dirt bikes. Don’t worry if you don’t have anything as we could share. Thank you”

Seachdain na Gàidhlig (World Gaelic Week)
Fàilte gu Cluich is Cànan! We are delighted to share that Ms. MacKinnon will be hosting a school and community event in celebration of Seachdain na Gàidhlig (World Gaelic Week). The event, titled, “Cluich is Cànan!”  (Play and Language), will take place on Friday, 27 February at 2:00 PM in Tayvallich Village Hall. Led by our students, this gathering offers an excellent opportunity for parents, families, and the wider Tayvallich community to engage with Gaelic language and culture. Whether you are fluent in Gaelic or completely new to it, we warmly invite you to join us for an afternoon of games, music, poetry, and refreshments (including tea, coffee, and cakes).

This event is made possible through funding from World Gaelic Week’s Small Grants Fund, with support from Bòrd na Gàidhlig. We thank Ms. MacKinnon for all her hard work and effort with this, and we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible there.

Music Festival
The Forty Second Mid Argyll Music Festival will take place on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st March in Lochgilphead. If your child(ren) would like to sign up, please see sign up forms below. Please note that if your child chooses to sign up you would be responsible for accompanying them, however we would authorise the absence for attending.

Keeping Safe Online
Keeping up with children’s online lives can feel challenging, with new games, apps, and platforms appearing all the time. To support our families, we’re sharing details of an external online‑safety information evening that may be of interest:

“Keeping children safe online – with Education Scotland and Police Scotland – Wednesday 25 February, 5:30-6:30pm, online: This webinar is being delivered in partnership by Parenting Across Scotland, Police Scotland’s Cybercrime Harm Prevention Team and Education Scotland for Cyber Scotland Week. There will be a short presentation by Police Scotland exploring how you can help keep yourself and your loved ones safe whilst online, followed by Education Scotland discussing concerns about the use of technology in schools and digital awareness in the curriculum, then an opportunity to ask questions.

Dyslexia Awareness- Learning Together
Mrs Fraser has been fortunate to attend the Dyslexia Scotland Conferences in both 2024 and 2025. These events provided valuable, up‑to‑date insights into how we can best support learners with dyslexia. We are now pleased to share this information directly with you, our parents and carers.

These upcoming sessions will cover:

Session One: 18th February at 3.15-4.15
• What Dyslexia Is
• Its Impact
• Key Indicators
• Classroom Approaches

Session Two: 4th March at 3.15-4.15
• Classroom Approaches (continued)
• Digital Technology

Session Three: 11th March at 3.15-4.15
• Resources and the Law
• The Dyslexia Checklist

Your child does not need a formal dyslexia diagnosis for these sessions to be helpful. If your child has experienced barriers to learning, stumbling blocks, or if you would simply like to deepen your understanding, you are warmly encouraged to attend.
