We were incredibly lucky to have not one but two family members come in this week to talk about their work, following on from Lorna MacArthur’s brilliant information session last week about being a teacher. Lorna showed us the items that are essential for a teacher to have in their schoolbag – from glue-sticks to a coffee-cups and from lanyards to laptops. She also explained that the number one quality that a teacher needs is patience, so that they can give every child in the class the time they need to learn and ask questions.
Today, we had a visit from Kieran McCulloch, fresh from calving and with an amazing video of today’s new-born calf which had been up on its feet within just 15 minutes of being born. Kieran inspired us by telling us about his love of farming, which saw him travel all across the world to develop his skills and took him as far as New Zealand before he settled in Argyll. He also helped the staff to understand who his friend Cammy from The Sheep Game is (the children already knew!!) and ended up reminding us all about how important it is that we understand where our food comes from and why farmers are so important.
And in assembly today, we were joined by Jason Rodwell who talked about the magic he works in the world of web design, video and motion graphics, Robotic Process Automation and AI. Jason explained that, since the COVID-19 pandemic hit 5 years ago, most of his work has been online, with his team now spread all across the UK but also that online working has opened up amazing possibilities. Jason is going to come back and work with the children on some design work involving robots and AI, which we are extremely excited about.
Thanks so much to our parent volunteers for coming in and sharing so generously with us.
